BRANDY GALE - Painter
Marshes Behind Sandbanks #2 - 16"x 20", acrylic on stretched
canvas. Private Collection.
Sunflower Field #8 - 16"x 20", acrylic on panel. Available.
To capture the essence of a place is something I feel best
done in
person, from life, with the wind and sound and tastes and
smells
whirling around you. There is power, joy and physical
challenge in
painting outdoors alla prima. The extremes of climate,
oneness with
the environment, and the sociable aspects of this method of
making art
appeal to me greatly.

Panoramic Messages #2 - 24"x 12", acrylic on stretched canvas. PrivateCollection.
Monhegan Island Cemetery, Maine - 24”x 36”, acrylic on
stretched linen. Private Collection.
Pushing the boundaries of traditional
Plein Air painting is currently
of interest to me. Following in the
footsteps of Canadian landscape
painters of the past, I paint constantly
what is at hand, on the spot
-- forests, seascapes, falling snow,
birds in the bush, and the odd
mountain. Incorporating mark-making,
patterns, abstraction, symbols,
and expressive colour while working in
the field assists my pursuit of
a direct, demonstrative, unreserved
body of work.
