Christmas Show at Arts On Main Once again we are inviting everyone out to see the new showing of art at Arts on Main, just in time for Christmas gift-giving. Many pieces will be smaller than usual in size. It’s a perfect opportunity to buy a work of art from your favorite artist at a more modest price for all your friends and relatives that need some ‘colour in their life!’ It’s also a perfect time to start that art collection you’ve been procrastinating about, with a signature starter piece!
The show opening happens Sat. Nov. 15th, 1-4 p.m. where you can meet the artists, while enjoying some refreshments and doing some too-much-fun art shopping. The gallery is open 7 days a week, from 10 am - 6 pm
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wayne McNulty Shares his Photography Skills Wayne McNulty conducted an outdoor, two-day photographic workshop at the end of September that took in different locations in the Wellington area. Wayne has been teaching photography workshops through Loyalist College for several years; this was his third workshop this year. Thirteen people from Brighton, Belleville, the County and some from further away, took part in the event which offered opportunities to better appreciate composition and design in photography. They explored a range of sites, including: By Chadsey's Cairn Winery and Vineyard, the Devonshire Inn, Armstrong Glassworks’ glass studio and adjacent mill and studios, the Henry Barn, and the property of Peter and Pat Sztuke.

Hot Off The Press Dave Boorne, (one of AOM newest sculpture artists), along with his wife had the chance to visit the Yorkshire Sculpture Park this summer. Dave comments,” This 500 acre sculpture garden is unlike anything we have ever seen. It has been functioning as a art park for 30 years and is located in Wakefield near Leeds, England. It has a mansion, a wonderful restaurant, a sculpture school, an underground gallery… and it is a working farm. Yes! Those are sheep, sleeping at the base of 20 Henry Moore's sculptures and Andy Goldsworthy, and Isamu Naguchi and Eduardo Paolozzi and more.” Admission is free.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Vanessa Pandos Works with Historic Glass Vanessa recalls the story…Ruth arrived at my studio with some old glass and wanted to use it for keepsake panels for herself and two granddaughters, her only remaining family. The glass was in an old Tide box with handwritten warnings - 'Be careful-glass' - taped to both sides. Inside were dozens of glass rectangles in blue, amber, green, red and purple.
Ruth's grandfather, Franklin Cole brought the glass with him from New York State when he came to Prince Edward County in the 1880's, intending to use it in the small house he built on Point Petre. He didn’t, and neither did his son, William 'Jim' Cole when he replaced that small house with the brick, turreted house that Ruth grew up in. When she moved back to PEC with her husband 60 years ago, she revisited her homestead, found the glass, and decades later found me. I made three panels for her using this beautiful, rich, historic glass. Sadly, the house Ruth grew up in is no longer there but fortunately, we were able to turn her family's glass into part of the Cole legacy.
AOM Gallery Artists News AOM Artist Paint in Algonquin
The Algonquin Expeditionary Force is at it again! Off to the wilds of Algonquin they went with some of the artists from AOM for their annual plein air experience. They all made it back safely with a few moose and a bear story, but mostly stories of how much fun it was, and how completely overwhelming it was for the first-timers, like Dayna Law . The Fall colours were spectacular again. The artists painted in different locations and gathered together at the end of the day to display the many works of art and photography completed that day, as well as make some delicious dinners for the group of 17 artists. The other AOM artists attending included Aidan Haley, Mia Lane, Judy Kent, Judy Plomer and Ann Wood.
Climenhage Workshop
During the summer, several gallery artists took art courses at Loyalist College and discovered a great artist/teacher by the name of John Climenhage (also affiliated with the Peterborough School of Art). They enjoyed his passion for art and his low key practical approach to teaching a group of artists at different levels. So they organized a 3 day plein air session in September, meeting at various places around the County to paint together, get some instruction from John, have lunch and talk about painting. The artists attending were Ann Wood, Judy Kent, Judy Plomer, Aidan Haley, Mia Lane, and Amelie Koning de Bourbon.
Dayna Law Paints the Pumpkin
Dayna Law had fun with her artistic talents: an annual event for her, she paints the giant pumpkin (a wrapped hay bale), and decorates the pumpkin patch float that gets filled with children/grandchildren from Huycks Point. Dayna then pulls it behind her restored antique Farmall Super A tractor. Who would know that Dayna has her own tractor?!
Doug Johnson’s Photography on Display

You must be an artist if... -You stay awake late at night wondering how to render on canvas the dimly lit shapes and the shadows in your room. -If dust bunnies are part of your mixed media. -You long to be alone with your thoughts while others are lonely without much thought. (quotes from Marion Boddy-Evans)
