| BECAUSE ART MATTERS |
| This Christmas Arts on Main Gallery in Picton brings you artistic, unique treasures in packages large and small and created by our award winning members. Plans are under way to make the gallery sparkle with the joy of light and the joy of gift giving including a Victorian- style wall of 12'x12' paintings. Serious thought will be given to some smaller creations with an emphasis on original “one of a kind” pieces. You will find unique art made by 27 Prince Edward County Artists that will delight your family, your friends and you... because ART matters! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Arts on Main Gallery presents: The Gift of Light Reception Sat. Nov.13 from 2-4 27 amazing artists from Prince Edward County NOV 10 – JAN 17 Image: Winter by Pamela Carter -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gallery Goes Green Green lighting is here! During October we completed phase 2 of out conversion to super efficient LED light bulbs. Not only does the gallery now have newer lighting than before, but instead of using 1.5mw of power per year, the total should be around 3 - 400 kw, saving the gallery between $1500 - $2000 per year in hydro bills by replacing 80 Halogen light bulbswith 110 LED's. The project was coordinated by gallery Chair Steven Draper with the Lumicrest LED specialist from Toronto. A zero percent loan from PELA CFDC provided the finances for the project. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Salon Night For some time now Arts on Main Gallery has invited its patrons to a Salon Night which is held each Friday just before the gallery’s opening of a new show. The last one was attended by some of the local dignitaries and candidates. One or two members each give a ten minute talk on their work and their method of creating it. This September's speaker was Pamela Carter, a fairly recent arrival to Wellington and to our gallery, who kept the invitees on the edge of their seat with her well spoken talk on her use of pastels and oil paints. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Student Artist - Angela Jane McQuaid Our invited student artist in this show is twenty year old Angela Jane McQuaid, born and raised in Prince Edward County. She is currently attending Sheridan College in Oakville studying Visual and Creative Arts. “I have a need to create and am constantly looking for ways to push my limits. My goals for the future are to graduate from Sheridan with honours and return to the County to pursue my artistic career,” she says. After several trips to the Maritimes, he became enamored with the wonderful naive and colourful folk art he saw there - and his own style began to expand. His birds, fish and animals are “happy” interpretations of nature; his “creatures” are figments of a creative imagination and off-beat sense of humour! Marta’s cloth art dolls and fibre works are a natural evolution of her skills and training in textiles and clothing (Ryerson Fashion Arts) and in feminism and images of women (York University, Women’s Studies). Her dolls are images of female existence, real or imaginary, inspired by her love of colour and texture, with a dash of humour thrown in. They collaborate to define the attitude and message of their joint pieces, then each works on their piece independently. When the wooden creature is nearing completion, a paint and fabric consultation occurs. Marta then costumes the cloth companion to compliment Terry’s work and to reinforce the message of the piece. The series of joint pieces have been received enthusiastically by the public. click here to see Terry's artwork click here to see Marta’s artwork -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- AOMG ARTISTS' SHOWS Dec 4 and 5th Brandy Gale's Single Malt Cove Studio -Open House as part of Studios on the Bay's Christmas Sale, at 1288 Rednersville Road, across form the Old Country Store -Barley Rd. click here to go to Studios on the Bay event November 29th Heart and Music fundraiser , Toronto Three AOMG members, Steven Draper, Vanessa Pandos and Brandy Gale will all be donating artwork to the prestigious auction that raises awareness and funds for Ovarian Cancer. click here to go to Heart and Music Auction Sat & Sun, Dec 4-5 & 11-12 from 11:00am - 5:00pm.
